I could requote your quotes and bold the sections that are actually relevant and do show substantial progress for Windows, but there's no point. You will continue to say the same things because you're dense, and I will continue to say the same things because I'm right.

What's with bolding the part about UAC? It never pops up unless you're changing system settings. I guess really shitty old programs that constantly try to access stuff they shouldn't might make it pop up, but that's again an issue of handling bad 3rd party stuff. Once more, that shit wouldn't work at all if it were Apple since they would just have dropped support altogether.

I can honestly say that the single largest improvement from Vista to 7 was being able to update any driver on the fly without requiring a system restart.

I know what you will highlight, but that would still miss the point. The article I linked to says that Win7 pre-beta == Vista. That version was released on 28th September 2008. On 7th January 2009 the official beta was released. And because that is the nature of a beta phase you don't do fundamental changes to fundamental parts of the program. So either there was a sudden outbreak of genius at microsoft, which was totally vacant during the development of vista or they polished vista a little, squeezed out a bit of performance here and there and called it Windows 7, the best thing since sliced bread. Kaz wrote: What's with bolding the part about UAC? It never pops up unless you're changing system settings. I don't doubt the new UAC is nice and all. But its a minor thing. What Win7 has over Vista is 3 months worth of kernel development and service-pack-sized changes.

I use XP (work PC), Vista (media PC), 7 (gaming PC), and OS 10.5 (wife's laptop)/10.6(work laptop/alt boot on gaming PC) on a regular basis.
I used to support a lot of faculty and staff computers who used a mixture of Mac and PC.
Believe the article if you like - I don't think they are giving any sort of meaningful metrics though. If someone were to ask me to recommend an system that they said absolutely has to work because they were taking it on a year long trip across the world and can't afford any down time I would tell them to buy a Mac.

In this scenario, definetly. It's the reason why all of my collegues use a mac for DJ-ing. Shit still goes wrong, but less and its generally easyer to recover from. Simple example: If i press the wrong button and my controller shuts down, i have to unplug, replug it AND reboot ableton. On a mac you only have to replug it and it works.

You are begging the question because your claim is enthymematic with an implied premise that is at issue. This is what happens when you repeat logical and rhetorical figures without understanding them. I will give you two hints. One. Two.

I'm using vista and the old one is like that. Perhaps the new one in 7 is configured in some manner that allows running terribly coded old programs without it popping constantly.

I'm pretty sure there's no point to arguing with Cassiel. However, I can't provide you with a valid reason because it will get picked apart by Cass.
Anyhow when did you change your "location"? It's worth a LOL.

Personally, I've found it pointless to argue with Cass because I'm almost always in agreement with him. at some point I must have disagreed with him on something, but I'll be damned if I can think of anything.

He's like my dad. He makes you learn if you don't agree with him. The most feared and reviled form of argumentation ever.

Seriously, you learned something?
The only thing I learned is it's pointless to argue with him.

I remember one of my first posts in the Stump waaaaaay back in the day, and how I'd just been exposed to my public high school's version of philosophy, and Cass was positively kind as he told me I knew nothing about anything. You people just need to learn to adapt.

Cass consistently argues well, and he always leaves it at, "You have my answer, and if I am wrong, your business is to take up the argument and refute me." That said the man is not infallible, but he can always help by allowing you to see things from a logical viewpoint.

I feel bad for anyone who thinks they've spotted any serious arguments in this thread, from Cass or anyone for that matter.

I dunno, I've seen some pretty terrifying ones in my time. Mostly in really weird porn.
