That is an awesome throwback to the vulture mine rush of the starcraft beta. (they used to aggressively seek out enemies)

Man, betas are so funny!
Here's actually a nice competitive match.

I hope that match wasn't indicative of anything. Seemed pretty tedious to me.

But.. but it has Nony playing!!! his first game of sc2 ever.. haha, no really you're right it's nothing special. I did see much better than that match, from one of the top ranked guys, channel got deleted though, maybe I find some other stuff later. But altogether, it's funny how those matches are so much more boring than wc3's current. The reason for that is simply what we talked about some time ago, player culture, what the real game is, and all, there just is none currently for sc2, no one really understands what he's doing and what the other is doing. Not only that, but the shoutcasters have no clue what to comment on either, especially in the build up phase. sc1 commentators are much more experienced to bridge that. All that just shows how important the game-platform itself hosting a match really is for an exciting watch--it's not really.

In all seriousness, I am looking forward to this game. The very idea of it hangs before me, a glimmering spectre of my childhood. I just wanted to take this moment to say I am excited.

Its good fun, so much so that I'm kinda fucked for my orgo exam tomorrow. So today my sick ass gets to sit in a lab far far away from the beta client. It lacks the fine tuned balance of brood war, but it took blizzard four patches after launch to get SC1 balanced anyway.

Haha they spawn broodlings as their attack?
Anyway even that shitty match was more interesting to me than Pro Creepfest 2000. You know that once they learn the game you won't see a protoss die to like 4 mutas.

Brood lords are really too fucking slow at the moment to be of any real use. If they were faster they would provide the zerg with a great siege tank counter. I always am forced to resort to banelings/zerglings/mass hydras to counter Terran, (Most just go with a huge ball of marines/marauders, augmented with support the longer the game runs on) and even then I have to hope I can kill their tanks and medivacs before I run out of hydras and lings.
Apparently toss still bitches about zerglings+mutas kicking their ass though. Hasn't been the instant win for me though.

Well, I managed to get in thanks to a WoW friend.
Roach rushes seem to be a reliable way to win most low tier games, I'm personally enjoying backdooring as protoss. So far the game looks pretty polished.

I'm in the SC2 beta... just meh... feels like SC in 3D to me. Only thing I'd buy SC2 for is custom games... if they're worth their salt.
I'm sure other people enjoy the normal game though. I just get bored with it.

Rage droppin da vidz
I'm more interested in the overall game dynamics once people have figured out the units. Stuff like how Terran didn't need more than 2 bases to build and rebuilt any army they needed but had mobility problems whereas zerg and protoss were gas starved pretty much constantly. Though I'm also interested if it turns out no unit is useless against certain races.

yarr it's vid madness this season.
Something interesting to note on that is that sc2 has the fastest evolving play culture as of all rts yet. The community is absorbing this game at unprecedented speed, almost every day is a big leap and changes everything. This is accelerated by several factors: it's the best and most stable/balanced beta of any such game yet aimed to accomplish exactly that; people got used to analyzing replays through earlier titles; sc2 provides abundant replays and videos by a bunch of very experienced sc players including blizzard's own staff whose role now expanded from mere balance testing to also seeding their advanced experience into the play base, and that the new bnet automatically saves the history of replays of each player in the pro-league for public access. It is an exciting time to watch, I've seen some very very cool things on live broadcasts. The matches excel when both players fully utilize their possibilities to harass, and the game offers a ton of that, while multi-tasking several front-lines at once. sc has been alot about macro-ing your base. sc2 is about macro-ing your battle micro, you have to manage your attention where you get the most bang for your buck across the map. What is immensely satisfying compared to wc3 is how ways of point control and diverse field saturation play a much greater role now and make for very complex battle conditions. At the rate of how things are going now, when sc2 is released we will already be enjoying elaborate high level matches from the get to go unlike any other release before, and things are going to explode from there.

The early game still looks pretty boring, which will only get worse as the metagame settles. It would be interesting to see them adapt point-buy from tabletop wargames so matches could start with stuff already in play. Handicaps would also be a lot more interesting that way.
